SC questions PM on inaction after 2G scam complaint

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has questioned the alleged 'inaction' and 'silence' of Prime Minister in dealing with Janata Party president Dr Subramanian Swamy's complaint in the 2G spectrum scam issue.

Swamy had written to Prime Minister in 2008 seeking his sanction to prosecute Raja with respect to the scam case. He got a reply from the Prime Minister's Office in 2010 that the CBI is investigating the matter.

SC questioned, "We consider this communication from the highest constitutional body should be carefully worded, we are examining the constitutional validity of this reply, it is troubling us."

SC observed: "Dr Swamy has a right in law to ask for sanction as a private citizen of the country, sanctioning authority can say yes or no, but to say it is premature means you don't have a right yet."

SC also asked the government to reply to allegations of manipulatuive by Swan Telecom having given licence at throw away prices.

The SC also observed that Swamy's petition has given specific instances of wrongdoing by the government. The hearing in the matter will continue on November 18.
